A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ deals with one of the most personal and sensitive aspects of your life: personal financial security. Trust and integrity are the cornerstones upon which each relationship is built. If you’re new to financial planning, you may have questions about the process and how to make informed decisions when it comes to the countless options available. Most people think that all financial planners are "certified," but this isn't true. Anyone can call himself or herself a "financial planner." Only those who have fulfilled the certification and renewal requirements of the CFP Board can display the CFP® certification mark. The CFP® certification is the most recognized in the industry for personal financial planning and only 17% of all financial advisors in the industry can claim this distinction.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board) owns the CFP® certification mark, the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification mark, and the CFP® certification mark (with plaque design) logo in the United States, which it authorizes use of by individuals who successfully complete CFP Board’s initial and ongoing certification requirements. (For information about proper use of the CFP mark and other CFP Board requirements please visit the CFP website at
